Now that it is getting chilly and wet here in the Pacific NW the fact that this kid can’t keep socks on has become a bit of a problem. I got her some shoes, but somehow she gets those off too. So I made some booties for her. Instead of ten stitches across the sole I did 12. I then made the rest of it 20% bigger and they fit with lots of room for her to grow. Since these tie at the ankles they stay on better. Plus they are made from Koigu (some of the yummy-delicious stuff I picked up at the Sock Summit). Now I need to do a hat and a little scarf…. I’ve got the pattern clearly in my mind… we’ll see if the execution matches the idea.
H finally fits into the orange cardi I made for her last year about this time. The weather has been perfect for it and she looks SOOOOO CUTE in it! The gals at the play group are impressed, which gives me a nice ego boost.
I know I’ve got that green variegated yarn on deck, but went ahead and made the Pretty Thing neck warmer by the Yarn Harlot. It went pretty quickly and was a fun pattern to do. I used the gorgeous Yak from Bijou that my friend Eddy the Yak farmer sent me. Since I only had one 200 yard skein I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. When The Harlot posted this pattern for sale it was perfect! Fingering weight–check, less than 200 yards–check, cute pattern—check! Plus it is super duper warm since Yak down is designed by Mother Nature to keep these giant animals warm in coldest Tibet. What I really love is that it became someone’s favorite on Ravelry almost immediately. So Cool!
I’ve still got the polka dot inherited toddler sweater to take on and would like to make some bibs out of the kitchen cotton that’s been living in the stash forever. That will be a good opportunity to practice Continental knitting.
In the “it’s a small world so you need to behave” category— an acquaintance from high school a few years ahead of me owns a yarn shop!! Too bad it’s in Michigan. But still– it’s a town of 700 people for crying out loud.
Need to start thinking about Holiday Knitting. Maybe I’ll do a neck warmer for my Mom. She’ll need it while she’s here. Although she lives in Arizona so maybe she won’t wear it very often. She loves it when I make her socks… so maybe that’s what I’ll do. I should do another pair for Sparky… Will probably see the In-Laws, including Sparky’s Aunt and his Grandma. I don’t know.
Still flirting with entering something in the Fair next year. Should start planning that now.

Hey! I think I’m commenting! All right, I’ll tell you what you surely already know.
The booties & cardigan are adorable. Orange is my favorite color, so I’m partial. And the neck warmer! I am a scarf fanatic, because if my neck’s cold, all of me is cold. What a great idea. You Portlanders - so clever.

You did comment! Yay!
The neck warmer was designed by a gal who lives in Toronto…. definitely a place I’d like to keep my neck warm. Perhaps Santa will send you a neck warmer and some cookies for Christmas this year~ It’s especially good for me this year. Usually I wear scarves all winter (and Fall and Spring…) but wearing H in the carrier means that a scarf is just too tempting for her to play with.

Hey, Sorry I didn’t send more…. never knitted a thing in my life! The boys have done some felting, but that is the extent our fiber arts experience. Combing and shaving the yaks is as much as we can handle! I am glad it turned out well and we will try to get you some more.
Thanks for trying the yak yarn.

That was in NO WAY meant to be a complaint about not having enough yarn to work with (funny, I just typed yearn instead of yarn)!!! That stuff is super-pricey and I’m sooooo grateful you sent me any at all. I found the perfect pattern so it is all good.
